RONAN

Some of you may remember Ronan. Although, admittedly, there was significantly less Ronan to remember.
Ronan originally arrived at our shelter on 3/20/2022 as part of the extremely popular “Mama Cass” litter. He was a delicious little puppy who went off to his forever home and, as far as we knew, that was the end of his story with us.
Four years later, we received a call from animal control near Vermont. They had found a very large, very happy, suspiciously familiar dog running as a stray.
Enter: Ronan.
Apparently, sometime between leaving our shelter as a puppy and resurfacing several states away, Ronan upgraded himself to the XL family size edition. He now has legs for days, a head that requires its own zip code and the general physical presence of someone who should probably be helping you move a couch.
Thanks to his microchip, we learned that Ronan had originally been adopted from us and was later given away by his family.
And just like that, our former Mama Cass baby came home.
Ronan does not appear particularly interested in discussing the details of his four year sabbatical. We have questions. He has declined to comment.
What we DO know is that somewhere along the way, our little puppy grew into an absolutely wonderful dog.
Ronan loves people. He gets along with other dogs. He is social, goofy, affectionate and seems genuinely delighted to be included in whatever is happening. He has one of those personalities that makes it almost impossible to be in a bad mood around him.
He is also 76 pounds, which means affection is occasionally delivered less like a gentle sentiment and more like a full contact sporting event.
Personal space is largely theoretical.
Lap dog status is self appointed.
We adored him when he was a puppy.
We adore him even more now.
But Ronan has already had one “forever” that wasn’t forever, and this time we want the real thing.
He deserves the family that keeps him. The people who make him part of their lives and mean it. The home where he can finally unpack whatever enormous metaphorical suitcase he brought back from Vermont and understand that nobody is sending him anywhere again.
Ronan left us once as a little Mama Cass puppy.
He came back as an absolute unit.
Now we just need the right person to walk through our doors, look at this overgrown baby and say the words Ronan has been waiting four years to hear: Welcome home.
